Illamasqua Prism - sex in a bottle

Despite my initial lack of enthusiasm for Illamasqua's new Body Electrics collection, I was very kindly sent the liquid metal in Surge, along with the polish in Prism to try. I was almost peeing my pants over Prism, it's the only thing from the whole collection that I really wanted and since I've never tried Illamasqua's polishes, I wasn't quite willing to shell out £13 for it.

If you want to see what Prism looks like worn alone, you can see it in MizzWorthy's post here. So pretty!

But I jumped straight in with using it as a layering polish. The one I was wearing at the time was BYS Pink Panic, a very bright pink which you can see in Jacie's post here, since I was too excited about Prism to think to take a pic of Pink Panic on it's own!

Now, trust me when I say these photos don't even begin to skim the surface of the multifaceted, flashing duochrome effect this polish gives in person. Very quiet and unassuming in the bottle, it totally fucking kicks ass on the nail. The duochrome effect looks very white in my pics but these were the best out of dozens I took - trust me that it really flashes blue and violet when you move it around in the sunlight.

I didn't apply a clear topcoat over this because I didn't know if it would dull the effect. Initially I was worried that this would mean it wouldn't last long but these photos are taken at the end of the third day of wear. You can see a bit of minor tipwear but I'm sure you'll agree it's still in pretty good nick so longevity gets a big thumbs up from me.

This truly is such an amazing polish. If I'm being honest, though, I wouldn't have paid £13 for it. I don't know if that's just me being a bit tight but I wouldn't ever pay that much for a nail polish; at least not in the dire financial situations I often find myself in of late. Hey, maybe one day I'll be able to afford them all. But if you don't mind shelling out a few quid, you NEED this. End of.

  1. Check out asos for Illamasqua. They have one for £6.50 (well, yesterday anyway) but it's horrible. They've got some others below £13. Take a look.

£13 is too much. I'm not getting one until it's threepence ha'penny.

  2. Wow, that is really really pretty! I took a peek at it worn alone and I do prefer it layered like you have it here, it also looks much glossier in your picture.. Very nice, I think I need to work on the state of my nails before even attempting to wear anything this pretty though!

    Thanks :)

  6. Ohh so pretty and I love the layered look. £13 is a bit expensive though, and I doubt I would pay that much especially being in my financial situation too. x

  8. I love pearly duo chromes! :D They're so much fun to layer. I have a cheap one that I picked up for a dollar...AMAZING over black! It flashes violet and green alternately. Diggin' this one over pink (although £13 is far too rich for my blood. >.> <.<)

  9. That looks so pretty! £13 is pretty steep for a nail polish though, I wish they did mini bottles which were a bit cheaper.

  12. That's really pretty, it reminds me a little bit of Dare to Bare from the Star Nails Attitude collection (which is about £4 from Sallys!)
